MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF ESPADRILLES
THE MATERIALS
First step of the production of our espadrilles is braiding the jute yarn, which later will be used to create the jute sole. Our factory is equipped with braiding machines with the capacity of 10.000 meters per day.
THE BASE
When the sole measurements are defined, then, the jute braid rope is placed on a turntable (manually operated)
and curled until it fills the whole area of the sole. Next step is to stich the platform from the middle towards the extremities to achieve perfect shape and density. After jute braided sole is ready, a rubber layer is attached to the sole through vulcanisation. Vulcanisation is a natural process that makes it more adhesive and flexible by submitting the rubber to high pressure and temperatures.
THE UPPER
The upper part of our espadrilles are done following the European size patterns. The client is to choose the upper material: cotton, linen, silk or leather. We also provide printing facilities and embroidery for our espadrilles to meet all the requirements of each client.
ASSEMBLAGE AND DETAILS
The upper is hand-stitched to the base by our female workers, who are doing the stitches in the most accurate way. Stitching the upper part is the most time consuming of the whole process, and could have been substituted by special sewing machines, however we are committed to the full handmade process, as though we are encouraging females from nearby villages to be able to work part time.
